Manbites Dog Plays The Trump Card

KATE DOBBS ARIAIL ON THE ARTS. · The Five Points Star
Manbites Dog Theater is doing it again: currently they are presenting a very fresh production of a recent stage work that is so timely that you realize that, yes–these artists are prescient.

Trump Snuck Up on The Trump Card Creator Mike Daisey, Just Like He Did On the Rest of Us

By Byron Woods. · The Independent Weekly
As expected, under Jeff Storer's direction, Martin brings a blunt bonhomie and a keen poignancy to Daisey's role.

Do not miss Manbites Dog's current show, THE TRUMP CARD. It's one of the best things I've seen on stage in decades -- all the way from wonderfully funny to deeply, truly horrifying.

I never tell people what shows to go to, but I am doing so now. If you're anywhere near Durham, and even if you're pretty far, do not miss Manbites Dog's current show, THE TRUMP CARD. It's one of the best things I've seen on stage in decades -- all the way from wonderfully funny to deeply, truly horrifying. After the show, a scared young man, a total stranger, looked at me in the lobby and said, "What are we going to do?" Old fart that I am, all I could say was, "I don't know. I really, really don't know."
And I don't.
This one-man show is Carl Martin in a pitch-perfect, audience controlling performance of the kind you might get to see a few times in your life. Director Jeff Storer is at his deft, savvy, surgical best. And Mike Daisey's script is the first piece of political-based theater I've ever loved. You laugh through it and leave in fear -- and thinking in ways you've never thought before.
The show is on a staggered schedule now through the election. Reserve now. ManbitesDog is tiny so it easily and quickly sells out. 919 682 3343. They call the show a "staged reading" but it is as full a performance and staging as you could want.
I told Carl and Jeff after the show that if Trump wins, God forbid, they'll have to go on doing this show for the rest of their lives.
